The Power of a Sunset
Did you know that a sunset lasts just about 5 minutes?
A sunset signals a day’s promise ending and the beginning of another. Big stuff to be held for just five minutes, right?
Great poets have tried to frame the power of a sunset.
“The Sun’s fiery kiss to the night!” – Oscar Wilde
It’s “Nature painting for us!” – John Ruskin
“Sunsets, like childhood, are viewed with wonder not just because they are beautiful but because they are fleeting.” – Richard Paul Evans
Yes! Fleeting brilliance because with all of its visual power, sunsets are gone in just a few minutes.
But the simple measure of being present can extend time and it is so easy to do. It just takes some intention.
Set at timer for five minutes, close your eyes, sit and wait. Feels like an eternity!
Now imagine those last five minutes filled you with awe and wonder! Wonder delivered by nature’s brush strokes. You’d like that, right?
Being present allows you to suck the marrow out of time. We all need joy and wonder in our daily lives and it is the gift that being present delivers.
Here comes the sun. Don’t let it set without you!
